  • Why Drillbot Doesn't Work // How To Fix It

We know Old Pets will need a boost to match Soul Pets and the upcoming New (Old) Pets. But the situation in which the Drillbot is now requires attention ASAP, since the pet is basically unusable. It's not even about boosting it. It simply needs to get fixed so it's only use isn't being a belt pet. Everything wrong with it will be listed below.

    Charges Aren't Enough

The Drillbot is the only pet in the game that requires charges and MP to cast skills. Currently the main 3 toggles (which can't be stacked) give 2 charges every 20 seconds. This change was added not long ago in a patch that reduced the recharge rate of all the auras in the game (boss cards, certain wings, belts, Drillbot skills). Can't recall if the charge rate was 10 seconds or 15, but at least it made Drillbot work for longer.

    Alpha Mode

    Recharge Rate = 20 Seconds (+2 charges)

    Alpha Stab

    Cool Time = 10 Seconds
    Charges Needed = 1

    Alpha Doublestrike

    Cool Time = 15 Seconds
    Charges Needed = 2

Just by looking at the information above, you can see it makes no sense why the recharge rate is incredibly slow. It takes 16.7 minutes for a Drillbot to gather 99 Alpha Charges to be able to use it's damage skills. If you start attacking with the pet, while using skills as you normally would in any pet to maximize damage output, you'll run out of charges in 9 minutes. Those 9 minutes are taking into consideration the charges gained during the time it takes to spend all 99 charges. The following modes are less popular mainly due to the fact that they don't stack and if only 1 can be picked, then Alpha Mode is the only way to go due to the damage output and superior buff.

    Beta Mode

    Recharge Rate = 20 Seconds (+2 charges)

    Beta Cyclone

    Cool Time = 30 Seconds
    Charges Needed = 4

    Beta Burn

    Cool Time = 30 Seconds
    Charges Needed = 8

In this case the max amount of charges is 20. Takes 3.3 minutes to get full. Even if you start with full charges, you will run out of charges in 2 minutes and 30 seconds, only being able to use 5 skills (total). (Again, taking into consideration the extra charges gained during that time).

    Gamma Mode

    Recharge Rate = 20 Seconds (+2 charges)

    Gamma Exposure

    Cool Time = 60 Seconds
    Charges Needed = 4

    Gamma Wave

    Cool Time = 60 Seconds
    Charges Needed = 8

Takes 3.3 minutes to cap at 20 charges. You will run out of usable charges in 2 minutes, being able to use 5 skills total. You get the drill by now.

    Loss Of Charges

If the pet dies, it loses all the charges making it unable to use the skills for a long period of time since charges takes ages to gather and they get used right away.

    Timer Not Showing

Thanks to that previous Aura patch, now we can no longer see the time the Toggle Buffs have left. Due to them ''lacking time'', they get buried under all the buffs making it so we don't even know at which stack we are at or how many charges the pet has left to use skills.

    Duration And Range

The Buffs last 40 seconds on you and have a Range of 15 M. This means that if a non-pet class moves pet away to not let it get hit by AoEs; people in the party or yourself, are bound to lose the buff at one point and having to stack it all over again. This is extremely painful considering it takes 16.7 minutes to get the full effect again; (if you don't lose it again mid-way.)

In the case of a pet class, specially those that rely on sending pets to attack and need to stay away to stay alive, they are bound to lose the buffs just by sending their pets to attack. Yes that's right, losing your pet skill, because you dared to use your pet... Let'ts not mention the distance that is needed to stay away from the long reach mobs like Guardians, and the distance needed to not get Silenced (can't cast skills) by Reviac, to be able to heal pets, is longer than the one Toggles have.

In the image below the red line is 15 M, while the red one is the Boss debuffs reach, and close to the Guardian mob reach. Move 1 inch away at the wrong second, and you'll miss 1 of the 2 chances to get to refresh the buff. Meaning you'll need to keep the pet by your side for 20 seconds to not risk losing your last chance.

    MP Drain

The Stage Skill (Toggle), Overcharge drains the MP too quickly, making the pet worthless even as a toggle slave on a non pet class. While on pet class the pet struggles to keep MP up badly unless the Drillbot is highly staged, or the Toggle gets turned off and on manually from time to time.

    Overcharge

    Recharge Rate = 20 Seconds (+1 Buff Stack)(10 Max)
    Duration = 5 Minutes

A Stage 1 Drillbot requires 2,450 MP just to activate Toggle which is a problem if you need to turn it on and off to try and keep MP up. After that 1,205 MP go down the drain every 10 seconds. That is without adding Unity and Mode Toggle. With every additional stage the MP consumption goes down by -300. Stage 3 being 605 MP, and Stage 5, 5 MP every 10 seconds. Obviously that is out of reach for average players and it's not how a pet should work.

    Toggles Don't Stack

Back then when these pets were new and the bar wasn't set so high, it made sense for the Drillbot Toggles to be limited to 1 at a time. Currently it just puts the pet at a disadvantage in comparison to Unique Soul pets. This will be worse with the addition of the incoming pets that are said to be stronger than the current pets. To have 6 skills on a pet that are unusable for the sake of making it weaker, even tho it already is, makes no sense. The rest of the Arena pets have no skills locked out.

And no, having the excuse that the stats these Toggles provide would be too strong is laughable. The stats are very low, and the 3 main Toggles already stack with Overcharge individually. Having an additional 100 or so P Atk or HP Recov can barely be considered a buff.

    Comparison With Similar Pet

Undine is a melee pet from the same category as Drillbot (Arena Pet) and it is able to use all of its many skills, including AoE ones without the hassle and restriction of charges. For the sake of a better comparison I'll be using Minotaurus. It doesn't have Toggles but it has passive skills that that allow him to stack stats. The difference on how easy it is for Minotaurus, unlike Drillbot, is huge though.

    Soul Harvest

This Skill stacks 99 times, but it only requires mobs in the 15 lvl range die.

    Soul Harvest Upgrade

At lvl 150 pet gets a passive that halves the effort, making it gain charges twice as fast. In other words by killing 50 mobs the pet has max stats; this task takes a few seconds. The pet doesn't require any of these stacks to use his damage skills. The stacks last 1 minute and 25 seconds, which leaves enough room to keep stack maxed.

    Ancestral Force (Stage Skill)

This one stacks 5 times for a big boost on the pet stats. Has a long duration to keep it maxed and it doesn't rely on MP in any way.

Summary: All the other 4 pets that are in the same Category (Arena) and Tier (Unique) are not limited by charges to function, do not have distance limitation, do not have MP issues, and are usable to their full extent in non-pet classes and pet classes alike.

    Solution

    Priority:

    1. Decrease Refresh Rate of Toggles from 20 seconds to 5 seconds. (This would decrease the max charge time from 16.7 minutes to 4.2 minutes).

    2. Increase Duration from 40 seconds to 60 seconds.

    3. Increase Range of Toggles from 15 M to 20 M. (Preferably 25 M, taking into consideration party members).

    4. Reduce MP cost of Overcharge Toggle consumption (every 10 seconds) from 1,355 MP to 455 MP at level 1. This will make it usable on non-pet classes. Reduce MP consumption by 50 per level, instead of 150 per level. Lvl 10 (stage 5) would still consume 5 MP.

    Should be done:

    1. Allow all Toggles to stack. (It would only be fair with the current state of the pets).

    Optional:

    1. Allow Drillbot aura effects to show a timer so that they are visible again on the buffs shown. (This change is not important if the rest of the issues get addressed).

    Not Needed at the moment:

    1. Increasing power multiplier of skills. (This might need to be re-evaluated with the introduction of the new old-style pets).
